Spinal Decompression Therapy in Jackson
If you’ve been dealing with persistent back or neck pain, numbness, or tingling down your arms or legs, there’s a good chance a compressed disc or pinched nerve is at the root of it.
At Double Chiropractic and Wellness Center, we offer non-surgical spinal decompression therapy as a gentle, effective option for patients whose symptoms haven’t responded to other approaches.
What Is Spinal Decompression?
Spinal decompression is a therapeutic technique designed to relieve pressure on the spinal cord or compressed nerve roots that pass through the spinal column. This pressure is often caused by herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, or other spine-related conditions. It can produce pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness that makes everyday life difficult.
What makes spinal decompression different from other non-surgical treatments is the way it works: applying a controlled negative pressure within the spinal discs themselves. This helps reduce stress on the disc and can encourage a herniated or bulging portion to retract back toward its normal position.
When this process is repeated over a structured course of treatment, the disc has time to heal, nerve irritation diminishes, and overall spinal function can improve.
What to Expect
During a spinal decompression session, you remain fully clothed and lie on a specialized table. A harness is placed around your pelvis and another around your trunk. The table is then programmed to gently stretch and relax the spine in a controlled, rhythmic pattern.
This process is designed to be comfortable. The gentle traction creates the negative pressure within the disc that allows the therapy to do its work.
Conditions That Respond Well to Spinal Decompression
Spinal decompression therapy may be a good fit if you’re dealing with any of the following:
- Herniated or bulging discs
- Degenerative disc disease
- Facet syndrome
- Spinal stenosis
- Pinched nerves (radiculopathy)

Your First Appointment at Double Chiropractic and Wellness Center
Like any new patient visit with Dr. Double, we start by getting the full picture. We’ll take a thorough case history and perform the appropriate examination to understand what’s going on and how we can best help you. From there, we’ll determine whether X-rays are needed and which views make the most sense for your situation.
Once the evaluation is complete, we discuss your treatment options. If a disc herniation is present, we’ll review whether spinal decompression therapy is the right fit for your care. We’ll also look at whether there’s an underlying issue that may have contributed to the disc problem in the first place, because addressing the root cause is just as important as treating the symptoms. Every care plan is personalized to your specific condition and goals.
The number of sessions needed varies from person to person depending on the condition being treated and the severity of your symptoms. Dr. Double will walk you through what to expect so there are no surprises.
Is Spinal Decompression Safe?
Yes. There is very little risk associated with this therapy, and the treatment is non-invasive. As with all care at our office, Dr. Double will be straightforward with you about whether spinal decompression is appropriate for your situation. If it’s not the right approach, we’ll tell you that, too.
